Jolanda Jetten
John Dixon
The British Psychological Society is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. John Dixon and Professor Jolanda Jetten as the new Editors of the British Journal of Social Psychology. They have both been Associate Editors for the Journal since 2005. Dr. Dixon is based at Lancaster University and his research interests include intergroup contact and conflict, environmental psychology, the social psychology of language and social change in South Africa and Northern Ireland. Professor Jolanda Jetten is affiliated to the University of Queensland in Australia and also the University of Exeter. Her research interests social identity, group processes, and intergroup relations.
They are both looking forward to the challenge of editing the British Journal of Social Psychology: "The British Journal of Social Psychology not only ranks amongst the top journals in social psychology, but also occupies a distinctive niche in the discipline: it is one of the few outlets where work in a variety of epistemological traditions of social psychology is brought together. For this reason, contributions to the journal tend to feature an eclectic mix of methodologies and perspectives, and accordingly, to engage an unusually broad constituency of readers. We see this diversity as one of the journal's great strengths, and it is a quality that we as an editorial team will seek to nurture and preserve."
After four years as editor, Professor Brian Parkinson’s term ended in December. During this time, the impact factor has risen to 1.987, the highest of any of the BPS journals. The number of submissions has also increased and in October the journal was ranked 14th out of the 10,000 journals hosted online by Ingenta Connect for the number of downloads, indicating that the journal is very popular with readers and authors alike.
We are very grateful for all Professor Parkinson's hard work and wish him well in his future commitments. We are confident that Dr. Dixon and Professor Jetten will continue to develop the journal and we are very pleased that they will be remaining with the BJSP team.
