New BJDP Editor Announced
Professor Harris has been Head of Psychology at Oxford Brookes University since 2006. She is also the Director of the Institute for Research in Child Development, which opened in 2007 bringing together experts in the field from across the University. Her research interests include the development of written and spoken language, language development and literacy attainment of deaf children and the early development of children with Down syndrome. She is the author of five books on developmental psychology and many journal articles. Professor Harris is looking forward to the challenge of editing the British Journal of Developmental Psychology: "Although I have had considerable experience as a journal editor, this is the first time I will have responsibility for shaping editorial policy and ensuring that we maintain a high standard of submissions". After five and a half years as Editor, Professor Martyn Barrett's term ended in May. Under his stewardship, the journal has gone from strength to strength to become a highly successful internationally renowned journal. The impact factor increased from 0.814 in 2003 to 1.103 in 2004, and in 2007 it reached an all-time high of 1.375. The annual number of submissions to the journal has doubled from 2004 to 2007, indicating that BJDP is first choice for many authors. We are very grateful for all Professor Barrett's hard work and wish him well in his future commitments. We are confident that Professor Harris will continue to develop the journal and we are very pleased to welcome her to the BJDP team. |
