INASP 2010 Update
In 2010, we are expanding access to BPS Journals through INASP so that institutions in countries such as Colombia, Fiji, Nigeria and Sudan will be able to access our content. We are now working with a total of 54 countries and hope that this will increase the number of institutions registered to use our journals.
INASP are also developing new projects. AuthorAID@INASP aims to help authors with few resources achieve publication in peer-reviewed journals and increase the visibility of research undertaken in the developing world. They will also be working with policy makers in a project called ‘Evidence Informed Policy Making’ to strengthen the capacity of African governments to handle policy issues relating to science and technology.
Both the BPS Journals Department and our online host, IngentaConnect, have joined the ‘Publishers for Development’ forum. This has been set up to improve understanding of the specific needs of journal users in developing countries and to enable publishers to share ideas. As online journals are designed with developed countries in mind, the low-bandwidth environment in developing countries can make the websites very slow. Ingenta will be working with INASP to find out how we can improve access to online journals in low-bandwidth countries.
Our colleagues at INASP wrote to us:
"We just wanted to thank you for all you have been doing to support research in developing countries"
And we hope that 2010 will prove to be equally successful!
